Easy, Healthy Chocolate Chip Protein Cookies (4 Ingredients)

Sometimes the simplest recipes truly are the best. These four-ingredient protein cookies are pure magic! They’re an easy recipe that’s naturally gluten free, contains no sugar, is high in protein, low in carbs, and so much more. They come together in minutes with ingredients you probably already have (especially if you’re looking for a recipe with bananas) and they’re totally customizable to fit whatever dietary preferences you have. You’ll never believe that these cookies are only made with three main ingredients by how soft, gooey, and sweet they are. They’re perfect for a healthier, high-protein dessert or the answer to your afternoon chocolate craving when you want something sweet but don’t want the sugar crash.

I’m constantly looking for new ways to sneak protein into my dessert recipes (bonus points if that dessert is an easy recipe, double bonus if it involves melty chocolate chips in every bite), and this one might just be my new absolute favorite. I’m not even joking — it’s hard to believe these cookies are as good as they are. If you’re skeptical, I get it — it sounds almost impossible for a recipe with bananas, peanut butter, and protein powder to bake up into the best high-protein cookies on earth, but they do! They’re fluffy, chewy, and melt-in-your-mouth delicious.

Even if you’re not usually a fan of banana desserts, don’t let the banana in this recipe scare you away from trying these high-protein cookies. The banana flavor isn’t overpowering at all—in fact, it’s barely noticeable! Because I use peanut butter for these cookies, they taste just like a thick, gooey peanut butter chocolate chip cookie. The banana is really just there to add moisture and softness without needing any butter or oil. Plus, it helps create a super balanced cookie. Each cookie packs 19 grams of protein (YES, per cookie!) from the protein powder, healthy fats from the peanut butter, and complex carbs and fiber from the banana. One macro per ingredient—because we love to keep things as simple as possible around here. And the chocolate chips? They add even more healthy fats and antioxidants (especially if you use dark chocolate like I do!).

Watch Me Make High Protein Low Sugar Chocolate Chip Cookies

I made 5 extra-large cookies, but you can definitely make 10 regular-sized cookies if you like them a little smaller. They store amazingly well in the fridge for up to a week, or you can double the batch and freeze them so you always have a high-protein, low-sugar sweet treat ready whenever the craving hits (which for me has been every single night lately!). Just pop one in the microwave or air fryer for a few seconds straight from the freezer, and you’ll have a fresh, warm, gooey chocolate chip cookie that tastes like pure magic. I guarantee these healthy, high-protein cookies will be added to your weekly sweet treat rotation — they’re just too easy and delicious not to!

Why You’ll Love These

  • So Easy - Literally just 4 main ingredients, one bowl, and 9 minutes in the oven gives you the most delicious, healthy, no sugar dessert packed with protein!

  • Super Customizable - The base is so easy that it can be changed up and still result in the most amazing cookies you’ve ever had. Don’t like peanut butter? Try almond or cashew butter. If you want a different flavor? Use chocolate or caramel protein powder. You could also swap out the dark chocolate chips for milk chocolate, semisweet, or white chocolate chips. If you want a little extra crunch? throw in some chopped walnuts or other nuts. The options are truly endless!

  • Edible dough - you don’t have to fear licking the spoon or the bowl clean with these cookies! because there’s no flour and no eggs the batter is completely edible (and delicious).

  • Baby and Kid Friendly - Since these cookies are a no sugar recipe, they’re perfect for little ones or even for baby-led weaning! Just omit the chocolate chips and make sure your protein powder has kid-safe ingredients.

  • Dietary Friendly - No gluten, no sugar, no grains, no eggs, AND no dairy? No problem! This easy recipe is super flexible—just swap out the peanut butter for another nut butter (or even sunflower seed butter) if you have an allergy.

What You’ll Need

  • Ripe Bananas - Since banana is the only sweetener in this recipe, the spottier the banana, the better! The riper it is, the softer it gets—and the easier it is to mash. You can even blend the banana if you want it totally smooth and indistinguishable in the cookies!

  • Peanut Butter - I use an organic peanut butter with only peanuts and salt in the ingredients. If you have a histamine issue or acne-prone skin, opt for a Valencia peanut butter! Or you can easily swap out the peanut butter for another nut butter for an equally delicious alternative.

  • Protein Powder - You can use any protein powder you like—however, beef protein does not work for this recipe. Whey, pea, hemp, and pumpkin protein powders all bake up perfectly. I used Truvani Vanilla Protein (code: SARI) and it turned out amazing!

  • Baking Powder - Helps the cookies to rise and gives them that extra fluff.

  • Chocolate Chips -I love using Hu Kitchen Chocolate Gems because they melt beautifully and fill the cookies with pools of chocolatey goodness, they’re also vegan, refined sugar, and seed oil free—but you can use whatever chocolate you have on hand (or leave them out entirely and mix in something else like chopped nuts or dried fruit instead!).

How To Make

  1. Preheat the oven to 350F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and lightly spray with nonstick spray (because these cookies have no oil or butter they tend to be more prone to sticking).

  2. In a bowl, mash a banana (or blend it in a food processor for a smoother texture), then stir in the protein powder, peanut butter, and salt. Fold in the chocolate chips.

  3. Using a cookie scoop, place the cookies on the baking sheet (either 5 large or 10 smaller cookies) Making sure to leave 2-3 inches between them.

  4. Top with more chocolate chips.

  5. Bake for 9 minutes until they’re risen and golden brown.

  6. Let them cool for a few minutes so they’re easier to remove from the baking sheet. Enjoy!
